Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins

(2.75 out of 5)I was not surprised this movie reeked worse than 2 week year old underwear. It was so bad that I regret renting this movie and I want to hit my head against a wall until the memory of this movie is bashed away. The plot of this horrible movie goes,Talk-show sensation RJ Stevens left behind his modest Southern upbringing and family name to transform into a self-help guru. With a reality-TV-star fiancee and money to burn, there’s no piece of the Hollywood dream RJ hasn’t achieved. After his parents request that he come home for their 50th wedding anniversary, the TV host packs up his 10-year-old son and diva bride-to-be and heads back to Georgia. It’s a chance to prove to his family that he’s no longer

the awkward kid they relentlessly picked on. At least, that’s the plan.

Hollywood has used this plot so many times that no one really cares for these family reunion movies anymore. There was nothing else to rent so I decided to give it a chance. Boy, I wished I didn’t.It had some funny moments I’ll give it that. Not enough to make it a decent film. Not to mention it was dirty up the wall.I do however recommend you rent this movie, so you can sacrifice it to the movie gods so they don’t kill us all for this shameful movie.

Vantage Point

(3.75 out of 5)This movie was better than average I’ll give it that. I’m still kinda deciding whether it’s average or just above average.Anyway the story goes,Eight strangers with eight different points of view try to unlock the one truth behind an assassination attempt on the president of the United States.

It goes through one person’s point of view, then rewinds and goes through another person’s. To me it kinda didn’t need to do that. People would have caught on with only going through one person’s eyes. It’s kinda nice to get to see what people were doing and whatnot through their eyes but it was not needed. Plus, the movie just droned on and on. I was like, get to the freakin point already! You really have to pay attention to this movie or you’ll get really lost. I mean, if you glance away from the TV screen when watching it and turn back to the movie you’ll get lost. The movie gets really boring, really fast. However, there were some action packed scenes, like explosions, car-chases,etc.I’m still deciding whether to buy it or not, cause this movie’s so long I feel like I’ll never watch it again. I recommend this movie if there is nothing else to rent at the video store.

Drillbit Taylor

(4 out of 5) This movie was pretty good. Owen Wilson did a good job as Drillbit and the kids weren’t so bad either. The story goes two guys start their first day at high school, from the minute they woke up it went bad. They wore the same shirt, and they also stood up for a kid at school from two bullies. Now, the bullies terrorize them every chance they get. Desperate, they hire a homeless ex-soldier to guard them. The movie was very funny.I did not like the cussing in the movie that much, and plus, it doesn’t really send a good message to kids. I mean, kids were cussing, beating the crap out of each other and all kinds of other stuff. I don’t think any kid under 13 should see this movie. I do however recommend this movie to rent.  I might buy it, probably not.

Hancock

(4 out of 5) This was a pretty good movie. I actually though, got my hopes up too high but wasn’t disappointed that much.It was better than average but not fantastic. But I will however, buy this movie when it comes out. Will Smith did a wonderful job, as Will Smith always does. The main reason I liked this movie is it took a turn that most superhero movies don’t. Like Spider-Man,Iron Man, and most heroes people all know and love Hancock was a hero that people didn’t want and hated. He didn’t really do a good job as a hero and did more harm than good. That was one of the reasons I liked it, it took a turn most superhero movies never do.

The story is about a homeless hero named Hancock, who is one of the worst superheroes ever. For some unknown reason, Hancock is depressed and has started drinking very heavily. He has saved many lives in Los Angles over the years, but in doing so, he has no regards for damaging buildings, trains, roads, cars, or anything that gets in his way to get the job done. The last time he captured several criminals, it cost the city $9 million to fix the damages. The public has had enough of Hancock, and they want him to stop or go to another city. Then one day, Hancock saves the life of Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman) from being run over by a train. Ray is a Public Relations executive who now can go home to his wife and child, because Hancock was there. Ray owes Hancock his life, and he makes it his mission to change his superhero’s image and have the public cheering him.

Once again, the movie was very good but I did expect more. From what the previews showed I thought I was going to give this movie a 5. But previews are misleading.CURSE YOU PREVIEWS! This movie was funny and contain some awesome fighting scenes, I do however, wish they made those scenes longer. For the action didn’t last long enough to enjoy it.Also, the movie was way too short.I hope though that they make a sequel.I do recommend you go see this movie, it’s a great summer movie just not one of the bests.

10,000 B.C.

(4 out of 5) This movie was great. It was filled with action, romance, and a good plot. A young hunter must lead a group of warriors to the far corners of the globe in pursuit of mysterious warlords who have captured the people of his village and the girl he loves.

The story was nicely done and I could connect with the characters in the story. Some scenes were boring though but I never regretted not watching those boring scenes. The mammoths and the other animals in the movie were done well, almost life-like. The whole movie left me on the edge of my seat, wondering what was going to happen next. I connected so well with this movie, that I laughed, almost cried(I don’t cry while watching movies), screamed(you’ll know why when you watch it. It’s not a bad scream.), and I clapped at the end.I will definitely be getting this movie on DVD. I recommend you rent this movie. This movie is that kind of movie though that is 50% you may like, 50% not.

The Spiderwick Chronicles

(4 out of 5) Surprisingly, I thought this was a good movie. At first I thought it would be average, or since it being a Nickelodeon movie, downright bad, but I was wrong. I try to give movies a chance, every movie, except horror movies, I don’t like those. I haven’t read any of the books but since I’ve watched this awesome movie, I’m going to now. After I read them you might want to recheck this review, cause I don’t know if the movie followed the books or not, and if it doesn’t I might have to take it down a half a point or maybe a full point.

Anyway, the plot goes twin brothers Jared and Simon, along with their sister Mallory and their mother, move away from the big city to a mansion owned by their uncle. When a series of strange happenings suggest that Jared may be causing a number of disturbances, the siblings band together to figure out what is going on. Soon they discover the magical history of the property. They soon find a book that unleashes the truth, which makes them see the magical world around them. They also find out that magical beasts want the book, especially a troll named Morgarath.

The creatures in the movie were really well done and there were some comedic moments in it. The movie is not too long or too short, but just right. I’ll probably be getting this movie on DVD, it was that good. I recommend you rent this movie.

Be Kind Rewind

(5 out of 5)This was a really good movie. At first I thought it wasn’t going to be that good, you know, average, but when I watched it I was proven wrong. It has a hilarious story and moments and great actors.Like Jack Black, Mos Def, and Danny Glover. The story goes when a bumbling movie lover named Jerry(Jack Black) becomes magnetized while attempting to sabotage a local power plant and accidentally erases all of the videotapes in the small video store where his best friend works,Mike(Mos Def), the pair attempt to keep the store’s loyal customer base by remaking as many of the top-renting movies as possible. Not only that, plus, they have to make as much money as possible to save the store from being destroyed.

I really enjoyed how they did their own versions of famous movies like Ghostbusters, Robocop, Men in Black, and more and did the stunts with regular stuff. I did, however, find one thing I was not satisfied with in this movie. The ending was unresolved, like you wanted to know what happens to them all but it doesn’t show it. You’ll know what I mean if you watch it.And some scenes were boring, but it wasn’t that bad at the boring scenes. Besides that, this was a pretty awesome movie. I’ll definitely  be getting this on  DVD.  I recommend you rent this movie.

Get Smart

(4.5 out of 5) I recently went to see Get Smart with my pal Earl and I will tell you it was great. There was tons of comedic moments and well as sweet action. At first I thought it was going to be just a dumb old comedy but I was wrong.

The movie is about Maxwell Smart, who works for a company called Control, a secret spy group. He dreams of being a Field Agent but the chief never promotes him. When the evil group called Chaos breaks into Control headquarters and finds all the names of Control’s Field Agents, Control has no choice but to send in Maxwell to save the day. To keep his butt out of trouble, the chief sends Agent 99, a girl who recently went through plastic surgery, which makes Chaos not know her true identity, with Max.Together, Maxwell and Agent 99 travels the globe to find out what Chaos is planning.

I highly recommend people to see  this movie. At some parts I kinda got confused, cause they would shift the plot to something else quickly. Other than that, this was a great summer movie.

Semi-Pro

(3 out of 5) This movie was okay to me. Not that good or that bad. The movie was laugh-out-loud  funny though. It is about this guy Jackie Moon(Will Ferrel)who owns a very bad smalltown basketball team. When he hears that the NBA is going to choose four basketball teams to join the NBA, he tries all he can to get his team in it. He then recruits Monix(Woody Harrelson)I by recruit I mean, trade a washing machine for him. With Monix’s help, Jackie Moon tries to make his team the best, all the while trying to get fans in the seats. This movie was really hilarious, but it one of those movies you don’t care much for. I was glad I rented it but I wouldn’t buy it.Plus, it had a-lot of cussing. I’m alright with cussing, it’s just that when it’s up the wall I can do without. It had way too much of it.I do recommend this movie though, if all the other movies are sold out that is. But if you skip this one, you wouldn’t miss much.

AVPR(Aliens vs Predator Requiem )

(3.5 out of 5)This movie was about average. I liked the first one more. Plus, the first one wasn’t as gorey. I mean, they went a little too far with the blood and gore and violence. 8 year-old boys were killed, little babies were eaten, pregnant women were…………I won’t even tell you it’s too gross. That too me, was the worst part about this movie. The fighting in the first movie was way cooler and better, but the fighting scenes in this one was awesome as well. Plus, the alien/predator hybrid was cool. Another problem is this movie is it’s really hard to see what’s going on, you really have to stare at the TV. The setting for the whole movie was at night.(just about)Other than that, the movie was kinda good.

The movie follows right after the first one, like a couple of minutes afterward. I won’t ruin the first movie if you haven’t seen it, let’s just say that the Predator ship that was leaving Earth crashes in a small Colorado town and unleashes the Predator/Alien hybrid, along with a ton of aliens. There, the aliens slowly start picking off the townspeople one by one. The people of the town have to stand together and not only fight off the aliens, but also the new Predator, which has come to Earth to exterminate  all the aliens. But don’t think he’s on the humans  side, he’s on his side. The Predator even kills a couple of humans.  So the townspeople has to hold out until the army comes to save them, but the army is not planning on helping the civilians, they’re main priority is containment first. Which means, that the aliens are multiplying by the second.

This movie was an okay movie. If they had toned down the violence a bit and the night scenes would have been perfected I would probably have given this a better review. But, despite it’s many flaws I do recommend this movie, probably like a second choice movie, like the movie you wanted to rent was sold out but this was available. I might just buy this movie, since I’ve already got the first one. Be a shame to not complete the collection. Most reviews from this movie were bad from critics but here’s the thing. It’s a critic’s job to hate films and find every flaw in it. I base reviews on if I like it and whatnot. If I like a film but I have to give a bad review like critics do, that’s like lying to me. I think of myself as a true critic.
